In 2010 Adult Learning Australia is celebrating our Golden Jubilee (50 year anniversary). In 1960 the Australian Association of Adult Education was formed from a meeting held in Hobart in 1959. Since that time the AAAE became the AAACE and in the year 2000 Adult Learning Australia. We hope to celebrate this milestone throughout the year with Golden Jubilee activities and publications, culminating in the Conference to be held in Adelaide where the first conference was held 50 years ago.
On behalf of the ALA Board I would like to encourage all new and ongoing ALA members to participate actively in the work of Adult Learning Australia and look forward to new and refreshing initiatives with Sally Thompson commencing in the position of Chief Executive Officer.
I would also like to express our appreciation for the work undertaken in 2009 by Ron Anderson who returned to act in the CEO role and whose experience has enabled the organisation to move ahead during changing times.
The ALA Board will be meeting in Melbourne on February 13 and 14 to refine the strategic planning work developed in 2009 and to set priorities for the organisation in 2010. All Board members are anticipating a challenging but exciting year ahead.
